In the book, readers get a feel for the all-encompassing adolescent craving that hits those destined for a career in music. In one chapter, Shafer writes, "I can't remember much about 1985. All I know is I wanted a band more than I wanted a girlfriend."
"In high school, I'd open up the phone book and call every bar until someone gave me a gig," said Shafer.
